HF valves conform UOP (Conocophillips)
The Alkylation units is a conversion processes used in petroleum refineries. It is used to convert isobutane and low-molecular-weight alkenes (primarily a mixture of propene and butene) into alkylate, a high octane gasoline component. This process occurs in the presence of a strong acting acid such as sulfuric acid or hydrofluoric acid (HF) as catalyst. Depending on the acid used, the unit takes the name of SAAU (Sulphuric Acid Alkylation Unit) or HFAU (Hydrofluoric Acid Alkylation Unit).
HF (Hydrofluoric acid) valves are specialized valves designed to handle the highly corrosive and toxic hydrofluoric acid, commonly used in alkylation processes. Constructed from corrosion-resistant materials like Monel or Hastelloy, these valves ensure safety and reliability in harsh environments. They feature tight sealing mechanisms, such as bellows seals, to prevent leaks and minimize risks to personnel and equipment. HF valve designs reduce dead spaces to prevent acid accumulation and corrosion. Often integrated with automation systems, they enable precise control and rapid response. Regular maintenance and inspection are critical for ensuring long-term performance and safety in HF acid applications.
